Gold vermeil (pronounced ver-may) is created by applying a thick layer of solid 18K gold, 2.5 microns over a base of sterling silver. This thickness meets the highest vermeil standards and is significantly more robust than standard gold-plated jewellery.

Unlike gold-plated jewellery, which uses a very thin layer of gold over base metals, gold vermeil jewellery uses sterling silver as its foundation and a much thicker gold coating.
